Former “Town Hall” gets a new lease of life

One of the grandest buildings in Elland, which is usually referred to at Elland Town Hall (although it never was the town hall) is to get a new lease of life as it gets the go-ahead for conversion into luxury apartments.

The main part of the town centre building has been derelict for many years but the street level areas are home to a number of businesses.

Workers have already started clearing the way for the buildings conversion into apartments and local people have been saying what a positive difference bringing the building back into use will have on the area.

“These apartments will mean more people living in the town centre spending money in local shops.”

Not everyone is happy about the prospect of more housing in Elland, some people have raised concerns about parking, however these have been addressed during the planning stages.

There is also some disinformation being spread about the building being used as a asylum seeker hotel – we can say categorically that no planning permission has been sought for this and it would be needed for such a usage. These apartments are aimed at the luxury market and will likely be sought after by local professionals who are working locally or commuting using the excellent local bus links or in future the rail links.

The regeneration of this building is key, and is a really positive piece of news.
