Police tackle Anti-Social Behaviour in Elland

A week of intensification to tackle criminality in Elland has been successful with over 100 cannabis plants seized, 40 illegal vapes recovered and two arrested.  

Between Monday 24 February and Sunday 2 March, officers from Calderdale Valley Neighbourhood Policing Team worked with Roads Policing Unit, Calderdale Council Safety Wardens, Trading Standards, Police Cadets and Special Constables.  

Operational activity and community engagement was at the forefront of this week of action focusing on areas across Elland including work primary schools and high schools in the area raising awareness on road safety and impact of Anti-Social Behaviour.  

A test purchase operation also took place, targeting shops, off-licences and supermarkets around the sale of alcohol and knives, a total of 15 were tested, 13 sold knives or alcohol and all passed, refusing to sell them to the police cadet.  

Results and recent activity include:  

•    Four warrants executed under the Misuse of Drugs Act 
•    Over 100 cannabis seized, further Class A, B and C also seized 
•    Two arrests (total arrests for all offences linked to the week) 
•    Road safety work, focusing on Vision Zero, including seven tickets issued for road traffic offences including speeding, no insurance and no seatbelt 
•    Operation with trading standards, over 40 illegal vapes recovered  
•    Targeted patrols to deter anti-social behaviour  
•    Nine residential visits to speak to people about potential drug use/dealing
•    Intelligence gathering   

Officers have also been conducting engagement work within the community and encouraging people to sign up to Community Alert to keep up to date with what policing activity is ongoing and what crime prevention work is taking place in the local area. 

Inspector Craig Collins of Calderdale Valleys Neighbourhood Policing Team, said:  

“The results from the operational activity and the additional engagement with the communities across Elland in the intensification week has been great.  

“I hope the public are reassured by some of the proactive work that has taken place to address areas of concern for residents and local businesses, such as road traffic offences and anti-social behaviour.   

“This is part of our continued commitment to those living and working within the area in Elland, that we do listen, we will take action, and we will continue to work in partnership to keep our communities safe.”
